Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM)

If you’re looking for certifications to help you build up your career, the CAPM (also offered by PMI) is suited for entry-level project managers. The CAPM doesn’t require project experience, making it a good certification for project managers who are just getting started.

Meet the CAPM Certification Requirements

Before you can take the CAPM exam, you’ll have to make sure you’re eligible. You’ll need:

  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent) and

  • 23 hours of project management education completed by the time you sit for the exam.

    • The PMI’s Project Management Basics online course ($350 PMI Member) fulfills this educational prerequisite. Also, the University of Louisville offers – PMP / CAPM Exam Facilitated Course Instructor Led Training ($2,195) Enroll here

Create a PMI Account

 

When submitting an application, you do not need to send documentation. However, you will be required to send supporting documentation if your application is selected for a random audit. To find out more about PMI's audit process, refer to the certification handbooks and the audit FAQs.

Scheduling Your Exam

  • The certification exam has 150 questions, and you have three hours to complete it.

  • If you have been granted test accommodations for the exam, please follow these steps for scheduling:

    1. Call the Pearson VUE Accommodation Specialist Department at +1 800 466 0450

 

  • When calling Pearson VUE’s Contact Center, the representative will ask for:

    1. Testing program: PMI – Project Management Institute

    2. Name of examination: CAPM

    3. Your PMI ID

    4. You will then be asked to verify your:

    • First Name

    • Last Name

    • Email address

    • Physical Address

    • Phone Number used in your application

  • If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment with test accommodations, you will need to call the same number you used when scheduling your appointment

Maintain Your Certification

CAPM certification holders need to earn 15 PDUs every three years to maintain the certification. Find out the specific PDU requirements.
