Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA)

Service members with experience as a Behavioral Health Specialist (Army MOS 68X) looking to continue their education has several options that lead toward licensure in the counseling and mental health field. The fastest of these begins with the University of Louisville’s Organizational Leadership and Learning (OLL) program. The OLL program is an undergraduate degree program that awards students credit based on their previous work experience.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) determines credit for experiential learning (up to 48 credit hours)

Graduate with Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership & Learning (BSOLL)

Feed into UofL Counseling Psychology program (track within M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services)

Master’s degree includes 600 hours of practicum/internships required for licensure

Graduate with Master of Education in Counseling and Personnel Services with concentration in Counseling Psychology

Apply for licensure with Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology

  • 3 letters of recommendation (2 from doctoral-level psychologists)

Take Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)

  • Part 1: $600 exam fee + $87.50 testing center fee

    • Passing score: 400, recommended score: 500

  • Part 2: $450 exam fee + $87.50 testing center fee

    • Passing score: 400, recommended score: 500

    • Must pass Part 1 before taking Part 2

Receive licensure for LPA

Complete 39 hours Continuing Education each renewal period (3 years)

10

After 5 years of practice as LPA, licensure can be converted to Psychological Practitioner

  • $200 application fee

  • 3 letters of recommendation (1 from current supervisor)

  • 500 or higher EPPP score
